William M. Ruffin, Jr. was born in Newport News, Virginia, on September 25, 1956 to William M. (Sr.) and Alphenia Ruffin.  He is the oldest of six children.  Pastor Ruffin was educated in the Newport News Public School System; graduated from Warwick High School in 1974 and attended Hampton University.  As an adult, he attended and received numerous business and technical training certificates and diplomas while employed at NASA and Northup Grumman (now Huntington-Ingalls) where he has been employed for the past 30+ years.  He received AAS degrees from Thomas Nelson Community College and St. Leo University.  In 2004, he received a BA degree in Business Administration, also, from St. Leo University.  In 2012, Pastor Ruffin completed St. Leo University and obtained his Master’s degree in Theology.

He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Jennings, for 38 years.  They have one son, William Jennings Ruffin; daughter-in-law, Danielle and two grandchildren, Szionna and Talitha.  Pastor Ruffin and his wife reside in Suffolk, VA.

Pastor Ruffin has attended church all his life; but while serving as a deacon and wrestling with the call to do more, he answered God’s call to preach the gospel in 2005.  He became an Associate Minister, Sunday School and a Bible Study teacher at Zion Baptist Church, Newport News.  His experience and wanting to do more for God led him to many opportunities to preach God’s word.

In October 2013, God led him to assist First United Baptist Church, Newport News, VA, with pastoral duties.  He performed in this capacity which led him to be elected Supply Pastor in early 2014.  Through much prayer, on July 26, 2014, the congregation elected him as their new Pastor.

Patricia Jennings Ruffin was the only child born to Herman and Letha M. Jennings on June 25, 1956, in Newport News, Virginia.  Sis. Pat, as she likes to be called, was educated in the Newport News Public School System; graduated from Warwick High School and later, went on to earn her AAS degree from Thomas Nelson Community College and ECPI.  She has been employed by the City of Newport News since 1990 and with the blessings of God will retire June 2016.  She and Pastor William M. Ruffin, Jr. married in December 1976.  They were blessed with one son, William Jennings Ruffin; daughter-in-law, Danielle; and two granddaughters, Szionna and Talitha.   First Lady and Pastor Ruffin reside in Suffolk, VA.

Patricia Ruffin has been attending church all her life.  She was baptized at Zion Baptist Church, Newport News, at the age of six.  She thanks her mother for encouraging her to attend church, faithfully.  While at Zion Baptist, she served as a youth Sunday School teacher, served on the Hospitality Auxillary, became a Deaconess, and was an active member in the choirs.  She, also, served on several Women’s Day committees.

First Lady, Pat, is a strong believer in God; her faith is unshakable; and the spirit of God dwells within her.  One of the many favorite verses she loves in the Bible is Joshua 24:15 – . . .  “but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”.
